So hubby went into work yesterday morning, and they were apparently escorting people out of the building without even letting them get their personal effects in many cases. They'd sent out a note a while back saying layoffs were something they were considering, but it was rather shocking to find out that the considering was done. As probably one ( Read more... )

Ryan was very excited to tell us about how they had a tornado warning at after school yesterday. Apparently shortly before hubby picked them up, actually. They know tornados are bad, and that they can kill/hurt people, but the excitement of the out of the ordinary activity seems to have put those negative thoughts right out of mind. David Cook, who is in every way, shape, and fashion a better vocalist than the other David, won! My DVR cut off the winning song, so I didn't get to hear it, but I read elsewhere that it was much more tolerable than previous ones, mostly due to the singer ;-) Yay for word-nerds!

So the plumber came, and about $300 later, a bathtub squirty fish toy was retrieved from the depths of the children's toilet. So...how did this fish come to be in the toilet? Ryan has gotten to the point where he dresses himself in the morning. The only things he might occasionally need some help with are some of the tougher varieties of buttons. He'll ask me whether it's a long sleeve or short sleeve day and choose appropriately. He claims he likes long pants now, on the couple of days I've recommended he might want ( Read more... )

She's been a bit hopeless, to the point where hubby nixxed the idea of getting her an upgrade. I speak of her ability, or lack of ability to pedal. She pushes her trike up the hill and freewheels down and has to be caught to keep from splatting into the back of mine or hubby's car (or the garage door if it's closed). Pre-K has been studying space - the planets, stars, comets, etc. Ryan has really latched on to that concept, and has been drawing us lovely solar system dioramas, complete with comets, meteors, stars, and even scaling things...the sun is a huge shallow arc on on side or corner, and the planets are more or less scaled properly.
